arche.jpg (45050 bytes)Situated in a 5000 sq, ft greenhouse, complete with palm trees, banana trees and other tropical plants whose flowers are the food of nearly 50 species of tropical butterflies, the Arche des Papillons offers you a trip to the tropics even in mid february to witness these tropical butterflies..

Most of these butterflies come from breeding farms in Costa Rica and l'Arche des Papillons uses biological methods to control ravages by introducing natural predators or parasites.

If you visit in the morning, you will witness the awakening, the moment when of the butterflies emerges from their chrysalide. In the afternoon, there is more action, as butterflies are feeding and engage in complex mating rituals.

Also, new from last year, colibris from South America have been introduced to l'Arche..papillon.jpg (20592 bytes)

During our visit, on a hot august day, we admired many specimens and guides were available to answer our questions about specific butterflies. Beside butterflies and colibris, we enjoyed looking at a large variety of tropical plants present in the greenhouse, whose heat and humidity reproduces the butterflies natural environment.

L'Arche des Papillons also offre guided tours for schools or groups upon reservation.

Open all year long from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
